Lakeshore Water Pollution Control Plant Expansion

The Lakeshore Water Pollution Control Plant, located at 1578 St. John’s Road, was constructed in 1987 and has a current rated capacity of 17,000 cubic meters per day. As per the Town’s Master Servicing Plan, additional wastewater treatment capacity is required to meet the servicing requirements for future growth. This project includes the expansion of the plant from continued use of the extended aeration process to the use of the Biological Nutrient Removal Process with increased capacity.

The expansion will be executed in two phases, and will include a new headworks building with mechanical fine screens and vortex grit removal, BNR system for biological phosphorus removal by means of the Anaerobic/Anoxic/Oxic (A2O) process, secondary clarification, tertiary membrane filtration, an ultraviolet disinfection system and primary treatment along with sludge management.

We are pleased to advise you that the first phase of the Lakeshore Wastewater Treatment Plant (LWWTP) construction project will commence in March 2025 and works are scheduled to complete by late 2027.
The plant expansion is being built to meet the long term servicing plans of the Town and to continue to improve the quality of the treated wastewater before its discharge to Lake Simcoe.

The first phase of this project will primarily consist of new construction on the east, west and south sides of the existing plant’s structures, as shown on the map with limits of the construction. Further communication will be provided prior to the work that might impact both pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area.
