Lakeshore Water Pollution Control Plant Expansion
The Lakeshore Water Pollution Control Plant, located at 1578 St. John’s Road, was constructed in 1987 and has a current rated capacity of 17,000 m3/d and operates at 65 per cent of its rated capacity. As per the Town’s Master Servicing Plan, additional wastewater treatment capacity is required to meet the servicing requirements for future growth. This project includes the expansion of the plant from continued use of the extended aeration process to the use of the Biological Nutrient Removal Process with increased capacity.
The expansion will also include a new headworks building with mechanical fine screens and vortex grit removal, primary treatment; a BNR system for biological phosphorus removal by means of the Anaerobic/Anoxic/Oxic (A2O) process; secondary clarification; tertiary membrane filtration; an ultraviolet disinfection system; and sludge management.
Construction activities for the Lakeshore WWTP expansion commenced at the end of November 2023. The initial works, that include site preparation and clearing, were completed by late Spring of 2024. The main plant construction is expected to start the latter part of 2024.
